Cheap and Cheerful

Cheap Holidays are everywhere now. So if you want to disappear for a little while for next to nothing just click. These guys have some great bargains.

Safety First

Today travelling abroad is easier than ever. For as little as £18 you can go over to Europe, and even flights further away are getting cheaper and cheaper. However, along with the opportunities which we have these days we also have more threats than ever before.

After the events 09/11 more people than ever felt discouraged from travelling abroad. As well as this there have been suicide bombings in hugely tourist areas such as Marmaris, Turkey and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. These constant terrorist threats can leave people feeling reluctant to travel.

Luckily we live in a society where people refuse to be beaten by these terrorists, and no matter how reluctant they may feel we all know that as long as we are safe and follow advice that is given to us there is no reason why we cannot go away and enjoy ourselves.

We are constantly being given new ways and procedures to keep ourselves safe, and it is important that we follow them, not only for ourselves but for our fellow travellers.

Travelling today can be more exciting than ever. As long as we follow all the boring stuff that comes before it.

Travelling Abroad? Time to be careful.

It has been reported in Newspapers over the past couple of days that a man who was extradited from Spain to face trial for child sex offences has been allowed to return to Spain until he is back in court.

Michael Dugdale was arrested after a Europe wide man hunt in order to find him was needed. After being extradited from Spain, having been accused of 30 offences including six rapes and sexual assaults on children as young as 12, it is, in my opinion, that it is madness to let this man leave the UK once again.

Dugdale has been living in an expatriate resort near the town of Mazarron, for at least five years now, and was tracked down to his home after one of his alleged victims contacted police.

Having recently stayed at an expatriate resort very close to the town of Mazarron it is a horrible thought to think that this could have been where Dugdale had been living. Locals of the area have a relaxed attitude and I often saw groups of children running around and playing on their own, as they would in their street in England.

Although this seemed a normal thing for children to do, after the Dugdale story came to light the presence of these children on the streets near their homes left locals slightly unsettled. It could have been in their area that Dugdale had run to.

After the hugely publicised disappearance of Madeleine McCann this summer people everywhere were shocked. It is impossible to think that this possible tragedy could happen again. The question people seem to be asking is: ‘What reason, after so many years on the run, does Dugdale have to return to the UK to attend his court case.’ There seem to be many possible places for Dugdale to run to from this area of Spain with a neighbour of Dugdale’s saying that he could ‘probably even get to Morocco from here.’

Although Madeleine McCann was a widely reported disappearance there are many more children that disappear in Europe without us hearing about them. It would be unbearable to think that it was possible for the police to have caught one of these possible child sex offenders only to let him go again. David Borrow, Labour MP said last night what people across Europe will be thinking: ‘All we can hope is that this man returns to the UK to face justice.’

Tips for Travel

As much as people love to travel there is always headaches that come with it. Whether it’s from the weight of our luggage, even for 2 weeks away we feel the need to pack for every possible eventuality, or whether it’s the annoying presence of foreign insects we have to deal with there’s always extra stresses when dealing with ‘relaxing holidays’.

It is for this reason that I think it is important to prepare for a holiday well in advance. I love to book my holiday’s early. Not only so that in the middle of November I can make my self slightly happier by saying ‘Only 200 days till I go on holiday.’ But I also love to plan. I love to share travelling tips with my friends and write lists to help myself get organised.

Travel tips come from everywhere now with some sensible: ‘Don’t over pack.’ Whilst some just seem to be strange: ‘Put your feet on a brown paper bag when flying.’

The point I’m trying to make is that if you prepare well for your travels, and note advice down when you hear it, your holiday and the run up to it, will be more organised and more enjoyable.

Winter Sun or Winter Snow?

I think that it is a fact that everybody loves a holiday. Whether it’s a long trip to the Far East, or a weekend away at the coast, holidays make you happy. It has to be the feeling of escape. Being able to ‘get away from it all’ if only for a couple of days is pure heaven.

Summer holidays seem to be a given. Even when you’re sitting in the hair dressers there is always going to be one girl who asks: ‘You going anywhere nice this summer?’ Almost everyone intends to have some sort of break over the summer, if possible. But it’s winter holidays that interests me.

Admittedly our summers over here in England aren’t that spectacular, particularly this past summer, which I believe was filled with rain almost everyday. But at least in the summer there is hope. You can hope that maybe tomorrow will be a nicer day. Maybe tomorrow we’ll have some sun and the opportunity to sit in a beer garden or have a barbecue. In the winter we do not have this kind of hope.

In the winter every one in Britain knows what they are facing day in day out. Cold, clouds and rain. So to me this is the ideal time to take a break, to jump on a plane and truly get away from everything. The question however which we are now facing is, winter sun, or winter snow?

Personally I love a holiday wherever I am. I admit that there is nothing better than having the sun shine on you all day. Just laying by a pool, having a few drinks on outside and generally not doing a lot all day, which to me is the ultimate summer holiday. But I also have to say that there is something to a break which is slightly less relaxing.

A skiing or snow boarding holiday has got to be the way to go in the winter. It’s like celebrating all aspects of winter in style. Doing winter how it is meant to be done. Amongst snow, snow, snow. There nothing like being on the go all day, having a holiday that uses all your energy until all you can do in the evening is sit down with a nice cup of tea, and maybe a few mulled wines in the après ski bars!

Whenever I’m looking for a nice winter break, always being disappointed that my student loan doesn’t quite seem to stretch that far, I always come across people advertising winter sun breaks. I think winter snow breaks are the way to go from now on. Leave the lazy attitude behind and get ready for an action packed week. Let’s face it you can relax when you get home.
